About Us

The Biobank Unit was formed in 2019 to consolidate & coordinate biobanking activities within the Ministry of Health (MOH) as well as to manage the day-to-day affairs of the MOH Biobank and The MOH Biobank is involved with the collection, processing, storage, quality assurance & quality control and disbursement of various types of tissue (such as blood, fresh tissue, saliva, formalin-fixed tissue etc.) and associated anonymised data from donors who have given their informed consent for their tissue & anonymised data to be used for future research.

Objectives

  • To consolidate and coordinate biobanking activities within MOH

  • To biobank samples collected for future research from MOH patients as well as samples collected through research projects by MOH staff or conducted at MOH facilities.

  • To carry out prospective collection of biospecimens and associated data focusing on cancer of national interest & rare diseases.

  • To establish a biobanking network between MOH hospitals and MOH biobank for collection of specimens and associated data.

  • To ensure that samples & data are collected in an ethical manner and are disbursed to researchers in an ethical, fair and transparent manner.

  • To provide consultative services to the MOH personnel and other agencies in the field of biobanking and biospecimen processing & storage.

  • To collaborate in various health-related research activities.

Our Services



Organise and manage sample & data collection from donors who have consented to contribute samples for future research.



Engage & liase with MOH clinicians, pathologists, researchers & administrators to coordinate biobanking activities in MOH facilities and to form a biobanking network within MOH.



Annotation, Processing, Storage, Quality Assurance & Quality Control and Distribution of samples and associated data



Consultancy and research planning services



Collaboration in various health-related research activities



Carry out the collection, processing, and storage of biospecimen samples in the Biobank laboratory in accordance with established procedures.

Guidelines/SOPs

Guidelines will be made available for download in the Biobank webpage. Restricted SOPs will be accessible upon official request.
